Barker's Newsbites: Thursday, August 28, 2014

So... the Drudge Headline:

"Russian Troops Invade Ukraine"

Bullshit.

The actual NYT headline:

"Ukrainian President Says Russian Troops Have Crossed the Border"

Umm...

Read the article, folks; not exactly a Blitzkrieg.

(*JUST SHAKING MY HEAD*)

The Drudge Report is my homepage, but... misleading headlines such as the one Drudge posted here have no place within journalism - whether utilized by the Right, the Left, or those whose only concern is circulation and revenue.

I hereby officially "chide" Matt Drudge...

(*GRIN*)

And with that...

Off to newsbiting...!!!

The Department of Justice’s board of immigration appeals has decided to let Guatemalan women win asylum in the United States if they claim to be victims of domestic violence.

* NOT CONGRESS - BUT "THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE'S BOARD OF IMMIGRATION APPEALS."

* IF THEY "CLAIM" - NOT IF THEY PROVE.

* FOLKS... THE WHEELS ARE OFF THE BUS.

The decision creates a huge new incentive for Guatemalan women to cross the U.S. border, because if their asylum claim is accepted, their children get U.S. citizenship, plus the use of federal health, education and retirement programs, regardless of their initial education and work skills.

* INSANITY. (BUT DELIBERATE INSANITY... OBAMA AND HOLDER'S DELIBERATE POLICY!)

The new decision also means that many of the Guatemalan women who have already crossed the border this year have a new claim for asylum.

“Under this breaking decision from the Board of Immigration Appeals, many [migrant] women [detained at the detention center] Artesia may be eligible for asylum,” said a Aug. 26 tweet from Ben Winograd, a lawyer who is paid to help foreigners win residency and citizenship.

* PAID BY WHOM? BY ME AND YOU?

“This (long overdue) BIA decision should make many [foreign] victims of domestic violence eligible for asylum,” said Winograd, a liberal advocate who is based in Alexandria, Va.

* WHO PAYS HIM...??? (AND WHAT'S "LIBERAL" ABOUT SIMPLY ASSUMING GUILT - CONCERNING UNPROVEN CHARGES - RATHER THAN ABIDING BY THE "OLD" AMERICAN VALUE OF "INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY?")

The decision was announced in an Aug. 26 decision from the Board of Immigration Appeals at President Barack Obama’s Department of Justice.

The board’s decision likely will accelerate the rapid growth in asylum awards to foreigners.

* YA THINK...?!?!

For example, the number of foreigners who successfully filed asylum claims in the United States almost tripled from 2012 to 2013, up to 30,393. (RELATED: Leaked Data Shows 10-Fold Increase In Obama’s Asylum Approvals)

From Oct. 1 to July 31, 55,420 adults and children from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras crossed the border to file asylum claims following the White House’s 2010 decisions to relax enforcement. Another 57,525 “unaccompanied alien minors” were brought by coyotes to the U.S. border, in the expectation that federal agencies will deliver the minors to their parents and relatives already living in the United States. Few of those who have crossed the border have been sent home.

Since 2010, the administration has relaxed immigration enforcement even though the annual supply of new labor — 4 million Americans youths, roughly 600,000 working-age immigrants and roughly 800,000 foreign guest-workers — far exceeds companies’ demand for extra labor.

* OBAMA... DOESN'T... CARE...

* FUCK UNEMPLOYED AMERICANS! FUCK UNDEREMPLOYED AMERICANS! FUCK BLACK AMERICANS! FUCK TEENAGED AMERICANS! THESE ARE THE DELIBERATE POLICIES OF THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION!

* OH... BY THE WAY... JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN'T REALIZE THIS...

(*PAUSE*)

The immigration courts are part of the Department of Justice, not the judiciary.

* IT'S NOT JUST CONGRESS BEING CONSTANTLY CUT OUT...

(*SIGH*)

http://online.wsj.com/articles/an-8-3-billion-rebuke-to-the-fda-1409181127?mod=hp_opinion

Amid this summer's M&A fever, Roche's agreement Monday to buy the San Francisco biotech InterMune deserves special notice. The tie-up is an $8.3 billion guided missile into the fortified bunker that is the Food and Drug Administration.

* BEAR WITH ME, FOLKS! KEEP READING...

InterMune has never turned a profit in 16 years of existence and other than its clinical expertise the company holds a single asset: an idea for treating a lethal lung disorder called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis with no known cause, cure or approved therapy — at least in the U.S. An InterMune drug called pirfenidone that slows the progression of irreversible lung scarring is on the market in Europe, Japan, Canada and even China.

But the FDA refused to approve pirfenidone in 2010, despite the 40,000 Americans who are killed annually by lung fibrosis and a positive recommendation from its outside scientific advisory committee.

* ONE MORE TIME...

But the FDA refused to approve pirfenidone in 2010, despite the 40,000 Americans who are killed annually by lung fibrosis and a positive recommendation from its outside scientific advisory committee.

* AND BACK AGAIN TO...

An InterMune drug called pirfenidone that slows the progression of irreversible lung scarring is on the market in Europe, Japan, Canada and even China.

(*PURSED LIPS*)

The FDA brass claimed the evidence was statistically unsatisfactory, when one clinical trial was inconclusive but another showed strong benefits such as improved lung function.

* SO PLACE A WARNING LABEL! DON'T DENY USE TO TERMINAL PATIENTS!

The Roche deal is a tacit reprimand to the FDA's unscientific and uncompassionate — and wrong — 2010 defenestration.

Amid medical ambiguity about effectiveness, the humane option is to allow a drug to come to patients and follow on with more research, in particular for a drug with few side effects.

Pulmonary fibrosis is a protracted death sentence of three to five years. The FDA denied tens of thousands of dying people better and possibly longer lives in the time they had left.

* BEAR WITH ME! THERE'S A LEAD-IN!

Twenty-three years ago, Pepe Fanjul went to the Dominican Republic on business and stayed for love.

“I thought, wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a house in the Caribbean, a very airy, outdoor atmosphere — not busy — with ocean views from every window and lots of grass and greens, since my wife is an expert gardener."

"We didn’t want a marble palace; nothing formal like our New York apartment or even my ranch, just something that fit the area, a Caribbean feel — Bali Caribbean, if you will.” . . . Today, while the family shows up for Christmas, New Year’s, and a couple of weeks in February and April, the Fanjul boys land on the property’s heliport for board meetings, though 'working in paradise,' laughs Pepe Fanjul, 'is harder than working in your office.'"

— Architectural Digest, December 2007

* OK... THAT'S THE LEAD-IN. PLEASE CONTINUE READING...

If ever Providence and the book-buying public should see fit to give me an absurd amount of money, I would no doubt present both a moral and a physical danger to myself and others, becoming exactly the kind of unthinking jerk who worries that the Caribbean mansion he helicopters into for New Year’s might be as distressingly stuffy as his heavily marbled Manhattan home or his ranch.

Bugatti would have a banner year, to be sure!

But even I would be embarrassed to be an American sugar mogul on the Pepe Fanjul model. It’s not the ostentation; it’s the welfare.

* CONCLUDING... (Part 2 of 2)

The Fanjul family is a major player in the U.S. sugar industry, which is poised to hand taxpayers a bill for $80 million this year, on top of the $3.5 billion a year they skim from consumers in the form of artificially higher prices.

(*CLAP-CLAP-CLAP*)

Agricultural output is very high just at the moment (two cheers for global warming!) with a record corn crop on the way and an abundant harvest of sugar cane and sugar beets coming down the pike. Throughout most of human civilization, an unusually strong harvest was a cause of celebration, an occasion for sacrificing a goat or a virgin or a mortal enemy to whatever rustic deity was believed to be in charge of such matters. For us, it means making a sacrifice, too - to a bunch of gazillionaires who own sugar companies. It works like this:

As I have argued here before, the United States does not have a government — it has a bank, and a very poorly run bank at that. The Bank of Uncle Stupid last year lent the nation’s poor, struggling sugar barons $862 million in order to improve their positively Dickensian conditions.

(*SNORT*)

With the fat harvest coming in, sugar prices are going down — and the public must, at all costs, be "protected" from low prices. If sugar prices take just another tiny little tick in a southerly direction, then an unusual provision built into the sugar barons’ loan agreements with the federal government kicks in: They don’t have to repay their loans in cash — they can repay them in raw sugar.

Try that with MasterCard one of these days and see where it gets you.

So the Bank of Uncle Stupid ends up having to take in a few hundred thousand tons of sugar in lieu of cash payment of those loans, which presents a unique set of problems, such as the need to acquire the world’s largest Wedgwood sugar bowl or to brew the world’s largest pot of coffee.

Cue Darth Vader music and enter the ethanol bastards, the worst and most rapacious gang of perfectly legal thieves roaming the land. There is no government activity that the ethanol lobby is not scheming to get a piece of. National security? We need ethanol for “energy independence.” Economic stimulus? Nothing stimulates like ethanol. Literal B.S.? Ethanol has you covered when it comes to actual bovine by-product. So, instead of all that sugar being piled up in the Treasury or piled up to form an artificial ski slope on the National Mall, these ethanol creeps get to buy it at a steep discount, imposing a loss of $80 million to $160 million on the taxpayers in order to help keep billionaire corn-juice peddlers practicing their back-strokes in gigantic vats of Champagne while Pepe Fanjul shows off his helipad to Architectural Digest and builds himself a private island made entirely of hundred-dollar bills looted from suckers like us.

Bonus: This is a “temporary” program from the Great Depression.

Needless to say, your traditional brain-dead Chamber of Commerce–type useless Republican clock-puncher loves this stuff.

So does Marco Rubio.

* SO... DOES... MARCO... RUBIO...

(*NOD*)

If the so-called party of free enterprise cannot figure out a way to run against this kind of pillaging, then they do not deserve to win.

http://cnsnews.com/mrctv-blog/craig-bannister/illegal-aliens-storm-beach-san-diego-second-attempt-thwarted

Illegal aliens successfully landed on a San Diego beach in a panga boat on Monday and ran to shore - but, when another group tried the same thing on Tuesday, U.S. Customs and Border (CBP) agents were waiting for them.

* ILLEGAL ALIENS... AND... WHO ELSE?

* FOLKS... I DON'T MENTION IT MUCH (MAINLY BECAUSE I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO), BUT THERE ARE SECURITY RAMIFICATIONS TO OBAMA'S POLICIES.

Around 7am Monday morning, a horde of illegal aliens stormed a San Diego beach after coming ashore in a panga boat. They sprinted across the beach and climbed over a wall, entering the city.

* SO MUCH FOR THE COAST GUARD...

Then, about 1am Tuesday morning, a second panga boat filled with 20 illegal aliens was intercepted about off the coast of San Diego County by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents.

(*CLAP-CLAP-CLAP*)

* AND WHAT WAS THEIR FATE?

CBP Air Interdiction Agents in an OAM Multi-role Enforcement Aircraft (MEA) King Air 350ER spotted the 30-foot panga around 30 miles from the coastal city of Del Mar. The MEA crew directed two OAM Interceptor boats to the panga's location.

The OAM boats caught up with and stopped the panga about 12 miles west of the city of Oceanside at around 2:30 a.m. The United States Coast Guard Cutter Tern was also in the area providing information and assistance.
Illegal Aliens Captured Off San Diego Coast

13 men, 7 women arrested off San Diego coast.

The panga and passengers were taken to the Oceanside Harbor where they were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol for processing.

* "PROCESSING." (WHAT DOES THAT MEAN...?!?!)

There were 13 men and seven women on board. All were Mexican nationals except two men were from Guatemala and one man was from El Salvador. The passengers' ages ranged from 20 to 51. Two men from the panga will be prosecuted for human smuggling.

* SHOULDN'T OBAMA BE PROSECUTED FOR CONSPIRACY...???

Panga boats are small fishing boats with outboard motors used in Central American waters.
