COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Relatives of a U.S. Naval reservist from Ohio say he was among the three troops killed when a suicide car bomber struck in Afghanistan.

Family members of 39-year-old Stephen Byus tell The Columbus Dispatch that he was killed Tuesday in Kabul when a Taliban attacker set off a car bomb next to an international military convoy. Twenty soldiers and civilians were injured.

The military hasn't yet confirmed his death or named the others killed in the attack.

Byus, who lived in the Columbus suburb of Reynoldsburg, grew up in Jackson County in southern Ohio, according to his brother, who said family members were told of his death Tuesday afternoon.

Byus was on his third tour of combat duty. Survivors include wife Valerie and two children.

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/ali-meyer/new-record-pound-ground-beef-tops-4-first-time

Although the overall Consumer Price Index dropped by 0.2% in August, the price index for food rose 0.2%, with the average price for a pound of ground beef rising to $4.013 per pound - the first time it has ever topped $4 per pound.

* CHANT IT WITH ME, FOLKS! O-BAM-A! O-BAM-A! O-BAM-A!

In July, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average price for a pound of ground beef had been $3.884 per pound — which was the record price up to that point. From July to August, the average price jumped 12.9 cents, an increase of 3.3% in one month.

* NOTICE A PATTERN HERE, FOLKS...???

A year ago, in August 2013, the average price for a pound of ground beef was $3.454 per pound. Since then, it has climbed 55.9 cents - or about 16.2%.

Just five years ago, in August 2009, the average price for a pound of ground beef was $2.134, according to the BLS. The price has since climbed by $1.879 per pound — or 88.1%.

About half of Iraq's army is incapable of partnering effectively with the U.S. to roll back the Islamic State group's territorial gains in western and northern Iraq...

* SO MUCH FOR U.S. MILITARY "TRAINING" MISSIONS. (FOLKS... WE'RE TALKING SINCE 2003... 11 FRIGGIN' YEARS...!)

...and the other half needs to be partially rebuilt with U.S. training and additional equipment, the top U.S. military officer said Wednesday.

* SO... IN REALITY... 100% OF IRAQ'S ARMY IS INCAPABLE OF "PARTNERING" EFFECTIVELY WITH US... OR ANYONE ELSE... AND I'M GUESSING THIS MEANS THEY'RE ALSO 100% INCAPABLE OF FIGHTING AND WINNING A WAR AGAINST ISIS ON THEIR OWN. (LOGIC 101.)

Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a former wartime commander of U.S. training programs in Iraq...

* IN OTHER WORDS, ONE OF THE IDIOTS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CURRENT SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS...

* FOLKS... I'M SIMPLY TOO SICK TO MY STOMACH TO CONTINUE. YOU WANNA READ THE REST... BE MY GUEST.

French military surveillance aircraft on Monday began flying intelligence-gathering flights over northern Iraq in support of the U.S.-effort to counter the Islamic State forces, and a French official said Wednesday that those flights will be conducted daily for an indefinite period.

* QUESTION: ARE THE FRENCH PAYING FOR THIS... OR ARE WE?

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss intelligence matters by name. The French government has said it would be willing to participate more broadly in military action against the Islamic State in Iraq but it has not yet conducted airstrikes.

* GREAT! SO... LET FRANCE AND HER ALLIES HANDLE ISIS. IN THE MEANTIME... LET'S USE OUR OWN MILITARY TO DEFEND OUR OWN BORDERS!

The bolstering of Iraqi security forces...

* IMPOSSIBLE. (AT LEAST ACCORDING TO THE PREVIOUS NEWSBITE!)

A Pentagon plan for training Syrian rebels...

* AND NO DOUBT ANTI-AMERICAN/ANTI-WESTERN TERRORISTS...

Once Obama signs off on the plan, the Iraq portion will need to be adapted, in consultation with the Iraqi government, to fit the Iraqis' priorities, Dempsey said.

* YOU'RE READING THIS, RIGHT? THE IRAQIS' PRIORITIES! (SHOULDN'T AMERICA'S PRIORITIES BE... OH... I DON'T KNOW... AMERICA'S PRIORITIES...?!?!)

Dempsey said U.S. military teams that spent much of the summer in Iraq assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the Iraqi security forces concluded that 26 of 50 army brigades were capable partners for the U.S. He described them as well led and well equipped...

* HE DID...??? (SEE THE PREVIOUS NEWSBITE!)

* TITLE THIS PIECE "STUPID FUCKING REPUBLICANS!"

The House on Wednesday approved President Obama’s plan to train and equip moderate Syrian rebels to counter the growing threat of the Islamic State organization, even though lawmakers in both parties remain deeply skeptical about its chances for success.

* "MODERATE" SYRIAN REBELS. AS IF WE HAVE ANY IDEA WHO THEY MIGHT BE!

* NOTICE HOW THE WP TRIES TO PROVIDE COVER FOR THE FILTHY POLITICIANS... "EVEN THOUGH LAWMAKERS IN BOTH PARTIES REMAIN SKEPTICAL..."

The vote placed Congress one step closer to authorizing the third significant U.S. military operation in Iraq in the past quarter century, and it put lawmakers on record approving U.S. engagement in the years-long Syrian civil war.

* IT PUTS THE ONES WHO VOTED "AYE" ON RECORD AS APPROVING; NOT THE ONES WHO VOTED "NAY."

* THE VOTE WAS 273 TO 156.

Obama’s proposal was opposed by more than 40% of Democrats...

* MEANING ALMOST 60% OF THE DEMOCRATS WENT ALONG WITH IT...

(*SMIRK*)

Republicans provided the lion’s share of support...

* BEING THE MAJORITY PARTY AND ALL!

(*SNORT*)

The amendment authorizing Obama’s plans was part of a short-term spending bill keeping the federal government operating through mid-December. Supporters included 159 Republicans and 114 Democrats, while 85 Democrats and 71 Republicans voted against the amendment.

Several lawmakers who are military veterans or are still serving in the armed forces voted against the authorization. Rep. Duncan D. Hunter (R-Calif.), a Marine who deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, said the authority “does nothing” to destroy the Islamic State. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), a captain in the Hawaii National Guard who served in Iraq, called Obama’s strategy “unrealistic” and worried “it will take way too long” to work.

GOP leaders were helped Wednesday morning when the Club for Growth, an influential conservative group, decided not to include the vote on the government funding bill on its scorecard for GOP lawmakers. The group informed House lawmakers in a memo that while it remains opposed to the underlying spending plans, it doesn’t take positions on legislation “driven by foreign policy.”

* AND THERE YOU HAVE IT, FOLKS; THE LITTLE SCAM THAT OBAMA, BOEHNER, MCCONNELL, AND REID RAN. THIS VOTE WAS A MIXED VOTE - MEANING TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT ISSUES WERE ARTIFICALLY LINKED SO AS TO GIVE THE WAR PARTY (MEANING BOTH PARTY LEADERSHIPS) THE EDGE VIA WHAT AMOUNTED TO EXTORTION.

After the Club for Growth’s announcement, House GOP leaders sought to bolster support by making calls to several lawmakers. So did House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and her lieutenants, although their efforts were “soft touches,” or informal outreach, according to aides.

* SEE WHAT I MEAN...

(*SHRUG*)

Senior White House staffers and Obama were credited for engaging House Republicans, especially Speaker John A. Boehner (Ohio) and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), with direct calls between the principals seen as an expression of good faith, according to aides in both parties.

* REMEMBER, FOLKS - BOEHNER AND THE RINOs... "ENGAGING" WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA AND SENIOR WHITE HOUSE STAFFERS...

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2014/09/17/Doctor-Govt-Tight-Lipped-on-Respiratory-Virus-May-be-From-Illegals

Dr. Jane Orient, Executive Director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, reported that the government has been “real tight-lipped” about the mysterious respiratory illness that has struck children in the United States, expressed concern that the illegal immigrant minors from Central America could be the source, and argued that the government should devote more resources to border security to combat the spread of disease on Wednesday’s “Laura Ingraham Show.”

When asked whether illegal immigrant children who have been sent to various locations around the country could be the cause of the virus, she responded “Yes, they could be. We don’t know for sure the government is being real tight-lipped about this, and it only takes one infected child to infect the whole classroom.”

Orient added “we don’t know where it’s coming from...are there immigrants from Central America, where this disease has allegedly been prevalent before? Should we be [looking at] the virus to see whether it’s like what’s been found in some of these countries that are just sending waves of children across our border and they haven’t been quarantined long enough to make sure they’re not sick?”

She also spoke about the risks posed by drug resistant tuberculosis, saying “virtually all of the cases of drug resistant TB that have been discovered in the United States are in foreign born individuals, and the vast majority of any type of TB is in a person who was born in a foreign country. It is a public health nightmare to just have one of these cases in your community because the person needs to be quarantined...and you could catch TB on a bus, there is no question about that.”

In addition, Dr. Orient spoke about the contagiousness of and potential for weaponizing the Ebola virus, reporting “the CDC, on its website, still says you can't get it through the air, however, they're putting out more directives of a Canadian public health services saying ‘well, maybe you can get it through the air.’ This type of air transmission has occurred in animals who had no contact except through the air. And Even so, it’s very, very contagious, it only takes between 5 and 10 virus particles to infect a person. You don't have to have cuts...there are receptors for the viruses in [people’s] normal skin." And “it's extremely transmissible that's why people who like the idea of killing off 90% of population say it would be an ideal agent for accomplishing that. There have been attempts to weaponize it...but you don't really need an ICBM warhead to transmit this, you just some infected people coming across your border." She further stressed that the government should devote more resources to securing the border to prevent the spread of disease.
