Barker's Newsbites: Wednesday, January 7, 2015

Well, folks... if you read nothing else today... PLEASE read the Usually Right stand-alone right below this post.

(*SMILE*)

I'm in full "semi-professional" blogging mode in the previous post! (Meaning I still throw in the "expressions" and some wiseass commentary, BUT, you'll be hard-pressed to find a more informative synopsis of what occurred in yesterday's House vote for Speaker.

(*SHRUG*)

Anyway... I'm STILL sick! (No...  not about the vote... I HAVE A BAD COLD!) Sneezing, hacking, blowing my nose; hardly got any sleep last night and just couldn't make it to the gym this morning.

So... how'bout them French...!!! (Americans... ARM yourselves! This $hit ain't gonna limit itself to Europe!)

Well... let me see if I can get a few newsbites posted...

DON'T FORGET...!!! READ MY ESSAY ON YESTERDAY'S SPEAKERSHIP VOTE...!!!

* TWO-PARTER... (Part 1 of 2)

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/01/boehner-allies-out-for-revenge-114007.html

John Boehner is getting revenge.

After he secured his third term as speaker Tuesday afternoon, losing 25 votes on the House floor to some relative-unknown members of the Republican Conference, Boehner moved swiftly to boot two of the insurgents from the influential Rules Committee.

* BOEHNER OPERATES AS A DICTATOR. IS THIS WHAT WE WANT? (IT'S NOT WHAT I WANT.)

The removal of Florida Reps. Daniel Webster and Rich Nugent from Rules was meant as a clear demonstration that what Boehner and other party leaders accepted during the last Congress is no longer acceptable, not with the House’s biggest GOP majority in decades.

* AGAIN... BOEHNER WANTS DICTATORSHIP - NOT SPEAKERSHIP. BOEHNER IS A REPUBLICAN OBAMA ONLY NOT NEARLY AS BRIGHT.

The reason for dethroning the two Florida Republicans was simple: Webster ran against Boehner for speaker, distributing fliers outlining his candidacy and talking about how he would better adhere to the House rules than the Ohio Republican. Nugent supported his fellow Floridian in the quixotic endeavor, which garnered the support of 12 lawmakers. Webster didn’t even give Boehner a heads-up that he was running, although leadership was aware early Tuesday morning that it could happen.

Members are already making noises about reversing any punitive action by Boehner and the leadership, although the speaker’s allies warn that further retaliation could be on the way.

* "MAKING NOISES?" PLEASE! THE VAST MAJORITY OF REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVES ARE THE ONES WHO EMPOWER BOEHNER!

The rebels don’t think they deserve anything but respect from the leadership and their colleagues, and none suggested they were sorry about publicly seeking to oust Boehner.

* "THE REBELS?" CONSIDER THIS PHRASING MY FRIENDS! MEMBERS OF CONGRESS OWE THEIR LOYALTY TO THE CONSTITUTION, THE CONSTITUENTS, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, THEIR OWN CONSCIOUSNESSES, AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY - IN THAT ORDER. BOEHNER (AND POLITICO IT APPEARS) WOULD REVERSE THAT ORDER - ONLY INSTEAD OF PUTTING THE GOOD OF THE PARTY FIRST, THE CULT OF PERSONALITY (OR LACK THEREOF) OF BOEHNER WOULD RANK AS NUMBER ONE.

* HOW LOW THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE FALLEN TO SWALLOW THIS BILGE.

* TO BE CONTINUED...

* CONCLUDING... (Part 2 of 2)

Tuesday’s tally brought “double the number” of anti-Boehner votes from 2013, noted Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.), one of the most vocal thorns in Boehner’s side. Huelskamp said he was unhappy that “only three of the freshmen class” voted against Boehner.

* AGAIN... THE AVERAGE REPUBLICAN ELECTED OFFICIAL IS A SELF-SERVING SCUMBAG - NOT A PATRIOT. (IN A SENSE, I HAVE MORE RESPECT FOR THE AVERAGE DEMOCRAT; HE OR SHE IS AT LEAST MOTIVATED BY IDEOLOGY... SEEMINGLY TO A LARGER EXTENT THAN THE AVERAG REPUBLICAN.

Rep. Steve King, the Iowa Republican who voted against Boehner, said, “If you cannot vote your conscience … then it’s clearly a dysfunctional system here.”

On Monday night, Boehner met with Meadows, Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan and Rep. Matt Salmon of Arizona. Salmon, who has railed against some of Boehner’s decisions in managing the House, supported the speaker’s campaign. At that point, the leadership felt that the tide was turning in Boehner’s direction.

* MATT SALMON IS A PIECE OF SHIT. (AS ARE ALL REPUBLICANS WHO VOTED FOR BOEHNER.)

But the meetings continued almost up until Tuesday’s vote – and Boehner turned several more members in his direction.

* NOTICE HOW POLITICO DOESN'T DESCRIBE HOW HE TURNED THEM...

* OBVIOUSLY HE BRIBED THEM.

(*SHRUG*)

* CORNHUSKER KICKBACK... BOEHNER BRIBE... DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN IT'S ALL THE SAME. THE ONLY FOLKS WITH ANY PRINCIPLES ARE THE TEA PARTIERS AND THE TRUE LEFTIES.

Earlier in the day, just before the speaker roll call began on the floor, Boehner met privately with Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador. Labrador skipped the 2013 vote, but supported Boehner on Tuesday.

* I WONDER WHAT HE WAS PROMISED.

Boehner and his team are firmly convinced that, despite 25 defections, they have a firmer grip on power than ever before. They say their “working majority” – members whom Boehner can work with – is around 220 members.

“We don’t need these fringe guys as much as we did anymore,” said a GOP leadership aide, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “We can let them walk on certain bills, and it just won’t matter. That gives us breathing room.”

* WHAT DO REPUBLICAN VOTERS DO? THE DEMOCRATS DON'T REPRESENT THEM... AND NEITHER DO THE REPUBLICANS.

(*SIGH*)

http://www.thefederalistpapers.org/world/paris-police-had-to-retreat-from-terrorist-attack-because-they-were-unarmed

What kind of society does one live in where police can’t even protect you?

Apparently in Paris, police don’t have to carry a firearm; it’s a choice. Unfortunately in the horrific Paris terrorist attack on the satire magazine Charlie Hedbo, some of the first responders didn’t have firearms. It’s not clear if the Director of Publishing’s police bodyguard had a firearm but he was also killed in the attack.

From The Daily Caller: Several Paris police officers who came into contact with the armed terrorists who slaughtered 10 journalists at the headquarters of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine, retreated from the gunmen because they were unarmed, according to an eyewitness. “Three policemen had arrived on bikes but had to leave because the men were armed, obviously,” Benoit Bringer, who works on the same floor as Charlie Hebdo’s offices, told France Info radio, according to The Guardian. “Then the attackers took off in a car.”

CBS News also reported — citing a reporter with Britain’s Telegraph newspaper — that the two officers were apparently unarmed.

Paris police officers have the option of carrying firearms, though many choose not to. A reporter for Britain’s Telegraph newspaper in Paris told Sky News that the first two officers to arrive, who were apparently unarmed, fled after seeing gunmen armed with automatic weapons and possibly a grenade launcher. Corinne Rey, the cartoonist who said she was forced to let the gunmen in, said the men spoke fluent French and claimed to be from al Qaeda. In an interview with the newspaper l’Humanite, she said the entire shooting lasted perhaps five minutes.

The security analyst group Stratfor said the gunmen appeared to be well-trained, “from the way they handled their weapons, moved and shot. These attackers conducted a successful attack, using what they knew, instead of attempting to conduct an attack beyond their capability, failing as a result.”

* TWO-PARTER... (Part 1 of 2)

http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2015/01/2-prominent-republicans-jws-corrupt-list-go/

Two distinguished alums of Judicial Watch’s annual corrupt politicians list — both prominent Republicans considered to have bright political futures — have been convicted of crimes and will fade into private life in disgrace.

First we have former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, not long ago considered a serious White House Contender. Instead, the member of JW’s 2013 Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians list got convicted for public corruption. McDonnell exchanged expensive gifts and cash for political favors. Among the gifts were luxury vacations, an engraved Rolex watch, a $10,000 suede coat, and a lavish shopping spree at swanky New York City stores and a $15,000 wedding gift to Governor McDonnell’s daughter. The governor and his wife also billed Virginia taxpayers for things like dog vitamins, body wash, sunscreen, deodorant and their adult children’s dry cleaning and used state workers to run personal errands for their adult daughters.

* SCUMBAG... (ACTUALLY, BOTH HE AND HIS WIFE ARE SCUMBAGS.)

In September a federal jury in Richmond convicted McDonnell and his wife Maureen of multiple counts of corruption. After deliberating for 17 hours, the jury found the former governor guilty on 11 corruption and fraud counts and his wife guilty on eight corruption counts and one count of obstruction of justice. This includes six counts of obtaining property, worth $138,804, under color of official right. The amount includes a $15,000 check for the McDonnell daughter’s wedding. This week the shamed politician got sentenced to two years in prison.

* SOUNDS LIKE THE DAUGHTER IS A PIECE OF $HIT TOO.

* CONCLUDING... (Part 2 of 2)

Next we have Michael Grimm, a United States Congressman from Staten Island New York who was a decorated Marine and FBI agent before getting elected. Last month Grimm, who appears on JW’s 2012 Most Corrupt Politicians list, pleaded guilty to tax evasion and this week he resigned from Congress under pressure. Back in April JW reported that Grimm was slapped with a 20-count federal indictment for hiding more than $1 million in profits from a restaurant that employed a large number of illegal immigrants.

Grimm, who is also a lawyer and an accountant, was an owner and managing member of an Upper East Side fast-food restaurant called Healthalicious. From 2007 to 2010 the one-time federal agent turned legislator oversaw the restaurant’s day-to-day operations and he filed false state and federal tax returns to conceal north of $1 million in sales and wages, according to the feds. He also paid cooks, cashiers and delivery persons, many of them in the U.S. illegally, hundreds of thousands of dollars off the books.

To increase the profitability of the restaurant, the indictment says, Grimm engaged in schemes to fraudulently under-report the wages he paid his workers and fraudulently under-report the true amount of money the restaurant earned to both federal and New York state tax and insurance authorities. Many of the workers did not have legal status in the United States, according to the federal complaint, and Grimm paid them in cash. This lowered the restaurant’s payroll tax costs.

The assistant director in charge of New York’s FBI office said this about Grimm: “As a former FBI agent, Representative Grimm should understand the motto fidelity, bravery, and integrity. Yet he broke our credo at nearly every turn. In this 20-count indictment, Representative Grimm honored a new motto: fraud, perjury, and obstruction.”

Grimm’s case has received quite a bit of regional media coverage and local newspapers called for his resignation from Congress long before he felt the heat and stepped down. New Yorker Magazine published a particularly entertaining story that describes the saga like this; Grimm’s pugnacious career in government service ended with a whimper. It also recalls some of the former congressman’s finest moments in office such as his on-camera threat to throw a New York television reporter off the capitol rotunda balcony for asking about a Justice Department investigation into his shady fundraising. Grimm was also caught on tape telling the reporter “I’ll break you in half.”
